A further step forward for the Kings this week with former Jane's Addiction frontman and founder of Lollapalooza, Perry Farrell, announcing that Kings of Leon as one of the headlining acts for the summer festival this August 7-9 in Chicago. The guys accepted the award long-distance, with Caleb saying "Without wanted to sound clichéd let me thank Britain. If it weren't for Britain we wouldn't still be here. All the credit goes to our British fans who have supported us from day one. Also I want to thank Glastonbury, that's the reason why we made the album �" and let me thank my mom."

2/23/2009 - Kings Of Leon To Join The Australian Music Community To Perform In A Special Bushfire Concert

The devastation of the current Victorian bushfires has left few unaffected. In response to our nation's greatest ever natural disaster Australia's music community have banded together for two stadium benefit concerts scheduled to run simultaneously in both Melbourne and Sydney on Saturday March 14, 2009 under the unified banner of SOUND RELIEF.

The concerts will be a celebration of multiple music genres, with artists playing short sets packed with hits. Concert goers are encouraged to attend the concerts from start to finish as major artists will be spread across the bill right from the very start of the day.

Coldplay and Kings Of Leon, who both have sold out concerts on March 14 in Sydney and Melbourne respectively, have kindly donated time from their busy schedules to perform 3-4 songs in the early afternoon.

Tickets will be sold for $75 and will go on sale from Ticketek 132 849 www.ticketek.com.au on Wednesday March 4, 2009 at 9am.

GA Standing on the field and reserved seating in the stands will be available for both concerts.

100% of the profits from the Melbourne concert will be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

For the Sydney concert 50% of the profits will be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal and 50% will be donated to The Premier's Disaster Relief Fund Appeal in QLD to aid the victims of the Queensland floods.

Michael Gudinski, Managing Director of The Frontier Touring Company said; "The Sound Relief concerts are for the survivors of the bushfires. The sad reality is that rebuilding their lives and communities will be a lengthy and costly process. It has been phenomenal seeing everyone pull together in this horrific time. Without doubt these concerts will be once in a lifetime events that will live on in the memories of everyone who attends."

Michael Chugg, Managing Director of Chugg Entertainment said; "Around the world, some of the words that are used to describe Australians include “big hearted”, “generous”, “battlers and “troopers”. It has been an incredible four months in Australia and all around the world for the KINGS OF LEON since the release of their fourth studio album ONLY BY THE NIGHT in October last year. The album which debuted at #1 in the National Motorola ARIA Album Chart has been the most successful charting album since 2005.

ONLY BY THE NIGHT has spent an incredible total of 10 weeks at #1, including seven consecutive weeks, for a total of twenty one weeks in the album chart. This has resulted in 7 x Platinum status with sales in excess of over 500,000 units and was the highest selling album of 2008 in the ARIA Album chart.

ONLY BY THE NIGHT has achieved digital sales in excess of 35,000 units making it the biggest selling digital album in Australian history. In addition to this, all three previous KINGS OF LEON albums, BECAUSE OF THE TIMES, AHA SHAKE HEARTBREAK and YOUTH & YOUNG MANHOOD all reentered the National Motorola Album Chart following on from the popularity of ONLY BY THE NIGHT. All three are still in the Top 100.

SEX ON FIRE, the #1 debut single to be taken from ONLY BY THE NIGHT, has sold 156,000 copies in Australia certifying it 2 x platinum. Follow up single USE SOMEBODY is close behind with platinum sales of 108,000 units and reached #2 on the National Motorola ARIA Singles chart. Both tracks were #1 most played songs on the National Airplay Chart. In the Triple J Hottest 100 this year, the worlds largest listener voted music poll, SEX ON FIRE came in at #1 and USE SOMEBODY at #3.

Australian fans will be able to hear these songs that they have embraced so warmly when the KINGS OF LEON kick off their sold out national tour on March 8 in Perth. The band has also just been confirmed to perform USE SOMEBODY on Rove on Sunday March 15 - this will be the band's first and only Australian TV performance to date.

This week the band won their first ever GRAMMY AWARD for �??Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals�?? for SEX ON FIRE. They also played a sold out show last month to 20,000 fans at Madison Square Garden in New York.
